20,000 Homeless After Floods in Zambia

Local authorities in Mazabuka in Zambia’s Southern Province, said on Monday 13 January 2014 that 20,000 people have been left homeless by recent floods there and are in need of relief aid.

Heavy rainfall in the area fell over the weekend causing floods that were so severe, 100s of houses were damaged as a result. Roads to the affected area has made it difficult to get a full assessment of the situation, as well as making it difficult for aid to get through. Heavy rain has continued since the flooding first began.
