Burundi – Homes Destroyed After Heavy Rain in North

The Red Cross in Burundi reports that torrential rain on 23 March, 2019 caused severe damage to homes and crops in the provinces of Ngozi and Karuzi.

Over 100 homes were damaged in the municipality of Mwumba in Ngozi. Over 2,000 people were affected and 25 people displaced. Almost 4,000 hectares of crop fields damaged.

Other affected areas include Gihogazi in Karuzi Province, where 2 houses were partially destroyed.

Burundi Red Cross are providing emergency shelters and relief supplies, including food.

Torrential rain and flooding in Bujumbura in late January this year left at least 10 people dead and over 100 homes damaged or destroyed.
