Colombia – Flooding and Landslides in Risaralda Department

Heavy rain triggered deadly flooding and mudslides in Colombia‘s Risaralda Department, leaving at least 1 dead and several injured.

The disaster occurred on 13 October, 2019, in the Matecaña neighbourhood of Pereira City in the mountainous area of Risaralda Department, western Colombia. At least 6 homes were damaged or destroyed, affecting 30 people from 10 families. The affected area is close to the runway at the Matecaña airport.

The incident follows flooding in the north-west of the country in late September, where around 5,000 people were affected in Atlántico and Magdalena departments.
