Torrential rain caused flash flooding in Santander de Quilichao municipality, Cauca Department, Colombia, on 16 April 2020.
Images on Social Media showed flood water raging through streets. Local authorities said homes were damaged along with material possessions, affecting 22 families. Power supply was cut in some areas.
Meanwhile the country’s disaster management agency, UNGRD (Unidad Nacional para la Gestión del Riesgo de Desastres) reports that since the start of the current rainy season (16 March, 2020) 53 events have been registered due to the effect of heavy rainfall in 44 municipalities in 18 departments of the country. UNGRD said that the most affected departments were Risaralda, Antioquia, Chocó, Santander, Cesar, Boyacá and Cundinamarca. As many as 1,198 families were affected, 670 homes damaged and around 20 destroyed.
