El Salvador – Heavy Rains Cause Flooding in Santa Ana, San Salvador and La Libertad

The government and disaster authorities in El Salvador reported heavy rain and storms across the country from 19 April 2021, resulting in damages, power cuts, floods and evacuations.

Flooding was reported in Aguilares municipality of San Salvador department, damaging 5 homes, while 2 homes were damaged by falling trees. At least 3 families were evacuated after flooding in Ciudad Arce, La Libertad department, while other evacuations were reported after floods and a mud slide in Santa Ana municipality, Santa Ana Department. Wind damage in San Luis Talpa, department of La Paz, cut power supply.

The government said it has distributed relief supplies to affected families in the municipality of Santa Ana.

El Salvador’s Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (MARN) reported 70.8mm of rain fell in 24 hours to 20 April in El Jocote, San Matías, La Libertad Department. The following day 85.4 mm of rain fell in La Union, La Unión Department, and 108.4 mm in Jalponga, La Paz, El Salvador Department.
