Mexico – Floods in Tabasco Leave Communities Isolated

Heavy rain caused flooding and damage in parts of Tabasco State, Mexico, on 04 February 2023. Floods destroyed a bridge which has left two communities isolated.

The state’s Civil Protection reported several roads were blocked in the municipality of Teapa, including the Villahermosa-Teapa highway was cut. Meanwhile, in the municipality of Tacotalpa, the Tapijulapa River broke its banks causing a bridge to collapse, leaving communities in Buenavista and La Esperanza cut off.

In a 12 hours period early on 04 February, Tapijulapa recorded 136.0 mm of rain; Puyacatengo 115.2 mm; San Joaquín 111.5 mm; and Teapa 88.7 mm. Civil Protection said the severe weather was brought by a cold front 9Cold Frfont 28) in the Gulf of Mexico.
