After floods and landslides in El Salvador and Honduras, the heavy rain has continued in parts of Central America, causing floods in Nicaragua.
Nicaragua National System for Prevention and Disaster (SINAPRED), reported heavy rain and floods affecting several departments of the country from 13 October, 2019.
More than 530 families were reported affected across 14 municipalities. The worst hit areas include the departments of Matagalpa, Madriz, Nueva Segovia, Chontales, Managua and Río San Juan, where the Las Azucenas river overflowed flooding areas near San Carlos.
Local media reported 2 fatalities. One person died in in San Miguelito Municipality in Río San Juan Department whilst attempting to cross the overflowing Fajardo River. The second victim died in Acoyapa Municipality in Chontales Department, after being swept away by flooding from a local stream.
