Three people died when heavy rain caused a gold mine to collapse in north west Nicaragua.
The heavy rain triggered a landslide onto the Rincón de García mine in Villanueva, Chinandega Department during the afternoon of 17 June.
Over the following days search and rescue operations worked to rescue the miners.The country’s disaster agency, Sistema Nacional para la Prevención, Mitigación y Atención de Desastres (SINAPRED) revealed on 22 June that rescue teams had found 3 bodies.
