The overflowing Kitamayo River has flooded hundreds of homes and swamped streets in the village of Pisac, located in the province of Calca, Cusco region, Peru.
Flooding struck late on 06 February. Roads to and from the city have been blocked by landslides or flood debris. Military personnel have been deployed to the area to assist with repairs and cleaning.
Authorities reported that 4 people were injured. Fifteen families have been displaced after their homes were severely damaged or destroyed in the floods. A further 202 families were affected.
Pisac is a popular tourist destination and known for its agricultural terraces and the Pisac Archaeological Park. The Kitamayo River is a small tributary of the Urubamba river which flows directly through the village.
