A severe thunderstorm caused damage and brought heavy rainfall and flash flooding in Bloomington, Indiana, USA, late on 18 June 2021. One person was reported missing and later found dead, Bloomington Police reported.

Images shared on Social Media showed dramatic pictures of inundated streets and flood water at car roof height, mostly in the downtown area of the city.
In a statement of 19 June, the City of Bloomington said Bloomington and the surrounding area experienced an extreme weather event that included rain, high winds and flooding in some areas. City staff, including members of the Bloomington Fire Department, Bloomington Police Department, Public Works, City of Bloomington Utilities and others, worked through the night responding to emergency calls for service. There were at least 17 water rescues.
Bloomington Police Department said a man was reported as missing. The man had last been seen in a vehicle that had been driven into rapidly-moving floodwaters when the vehicle began to drift and eventually collided with an unknown object. A passenger managed to escape the vehicle, suffering injuries. A search operation eventually located the vehicle and later the body of the missing man.
Mayor John Hamilton said, “as with any natural disaster, we are grateful for the lives spared and all those who responded through the night. We will work together as a community to help each other recover from the property damage sustained. Please reach out to your neighbors and do what you can to assist those in need.”
Damage assessment throughout the community is still ongoing and residents are urged to avoid flooded areas.
