18 Killed in Flash Floods Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

As many as 18 people have been killed in flash floods in the northern Pakistan province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The deaths occurred in the capital Peshawar and the surrounding suburbs on Friday 15 August. A further 80 people have been injured.

The province has seen heavy rainfall between 14 and 17 August, causing damage to houses and roads. Other provinces including Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir have also been affected.

According to local media the Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif requested that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government provide all possible help and relief to those affected by the floods. He also announced compensation from the central government for the dead and injured.
