China – 6 More Dead as Further Floods Hit Guizhou and Jiangxi

Further heavy rain in southern China has triggered a landslide in Hukeng Township in Anfu County in central Jiangxi Province. Local civil protection authorities say that several homes have been destroyed and at least 4 people have died.

The recent rainfall began early on Wednesday 27 May 2015 and has affected 29 counties in the province. The province has endured 3 weeks of heavy rain. During that time at least 11 people have been killed in flood related incidents in Jiangxi and several others remain missing.

In Guizhou Province, heavy rain struck late on Tuesday 26 May 2015, leaving at least 2 people dead and 30,000 evacuated. The worst affected area is Leishan County in Qiandongnan Prefecture, where the flooding has cut water and power supplies and levels of the Danjiang River are dangerously high.

This year China has seen its wettest May for 40 years. At least 58 people have now died in flood related incidents in China this month.
