Floods Hit China’s Eastern Provinces

Heavy rain has been falling in Hubei, Henan and Anhui provinces since 26 September 2014. Homes have been completely destroyed and others severely damaged as a result of flooding.

Heavy rainfall has also been seen in Chongqing, Shaanxi, Shandong and Jiangsu provinces. As much as 112mm of rain fell in Zhumadian, Henan province in a 24 hour period between 27 and 28 September, according to WMO figures. During the same period, Fuyang in Anhui province saw 93mm of rain.

Warnings of further flooding and landslides have been issued by China’s Meteorological Department. Seven people have been reported as killed and a further 4 injured after heavy rain caused a landslide in Xuan’en County, south west Hubei.
