Floods have struck in the Su-ngai Kolok and Waeng districts of Narathiwat in Thailand following continuous rainfall throughout last week.
The rainfall increased levels of the Buketa Canal until it eventually overflowed, flooding around 20 villages and leaving around 1,088 homes under 50cm to 100cm of water.
There are forecasts of some further rainfall. The flood waters have since recede, but since river and canal levels are still high – especially the Golok / Kolok River – it is feared that any more rainfall could bring further flooding.
Some aid packages have been distributed to those families affected, and a relief centre has been set up in the area.
The video clip below is believed to be of the flooded area, filmed around 11 or 12 January 2014.
