Iranian Red Crescent said that heavy rains triggered flooding in at least 10 villages in areas of the province, in particular near the city of Estahban city where the heavy rain caused the Roudbal river to break its banks.

Hossein Darvishi, Managing Director of the Fars Red Crescent Provincial branch said rescue teams saved 74 people from the floods. Around 90 people have been injured.

Rescue teams are working in the area searching for two young children still missing in the floods. The Red Crescent has deployed one relief helicopter, 30 teams (consisting of 145 aid workers and rescuers), sniffer dogs and 24 operational vehicles in the affected regions.

Iran’s interior minister, Ahmad Vahidi, visited the affected areas. Flood warnings have been issued for neighbouring Kerman Province.
