Flash flooding in parts of northern Laos over the last few days has affected around 500 people (125 families) in Oudomxay Province.
Vientiane Times, quoting government sources, said that flooding hit 3 villages in Baeng district in Oudomxay province on 17 August, 2019.
The capital, Vientiane, was hit by some minor flooding on 20 August. Roads were blocked and traffic disrupted, according to Lao News Agency. Vientiane recorded 141mm of rain in 24 hours to 21 August.
Flooding has also affected parts of Nan district in Luang Prabang province in recent days. This is the second spate of flooding in the district in the last few weeks. On 29 July the Nan River broke its banks, affecting around 2,000 people (400 families).
Meanwhile 6 people are still missing after floods in Viengxay (also Viang Xai), Houaphanh province on 03 August. The flooding also damaged homes, crops and livestock. Viengxay recorded 41mm of rain in 24 hours to 03 August and Sam Nuea, also in Houaphanh Province recorded 101mm of rain the following day.
