Record rainfall in the Maldives caused flooding on Wednesday 05 December in parts of the capital, Malé.
Local media, quoting Maldives meteorology department, said the capital had experienced a record 149mm in a few hours to the afternoon of Wednesday, 06 December.
Flood water was over 50 cm deep in some areas. Around 10 people were evacuated and around 160 families were affected by the flooding. Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), fire department and police teams were deployed to drain the flooding and clear damaged houses.
