Thousands Displaced by Floods in Philippines

Floods in Mindanao, Philippines, have affected nearly 500,000 people since 21st July. 3 people have been reported as killed in the floods. Heavy rain continues in the region, making the treat of floods and landslides worse.

Houses, bridges and roads have all been damaged. Many crops have also failed as a result of flooding.The worst affected areas are Western Mindanao, Central Mindanao and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, particularly Maguindanao province, where nearly 400,000 people had been displaced. The district of Sultan Kudarat has the largest number of displaced people, with 37 695 evacuated

On Saturday 3rd August, a Philippines National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) report announced that:

a series of bad weather conditions affecting many Mindanao areas had spawned floods that displaced nearly 400,000 people, more than half of them in Maguindanao since last week.
