More floods in Nepal, July 2013

Heavy rainfall resulted in floods and landslides in various regions of Nepal. As of 22nd July 2013, 8 deaths were reported and also 13 reported missing.

Three were killed in Palpa district where torrential rain and landslides buried 2 houses. A couple were killed after floods and landslides buried their house in Myagdi district. Another 3 deaths were reported in Syangja district, where floods and landslides also wiped out a school and suspension bridge in Chinnebas.

5 people, including 2 young children, were reported missing after they had been swept away by flood waters in Nawalparasi. Continuous rainfall and lack of a proper road to Rakachuli have hampered search and rescue work, Chief District Officer Keshab Adhikari said.

Another 3 people have been reported as missing after they were swept away while crossing the Narayani river on an inflated tube. High levels of the Narayani river also threaten many villages in the Nawalparasi and neighbouring Chitwan areas. Some houses have already been flooded, displacing around 200 families.
