Philippines – 1,302 Families Evacuated After Flash Floods in Davao Del Norte

The Philippines National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed in a statement yesterday that 1,302 families had to be evacuated from their homes after flash floods struck in Carmen, Davao del Norte after heavy rainfall over the weekend.

The worst of the flooding was caused by the Tuganay River breaking its banks and damaging a dike located at the Mactan Channel early in the morning of Sunday 20 April 2014 .

The barangays of Ising, Mabaus, Salvacion, Anibongan, San Isidro, Alejal, Magsaysay, and New Camiling were alll affected by floods. The evacuated families were put into temporary accommodation at the Barangay Alejal Gymnasium where food packs and assorted relief
items were distributed.

Last week Tagum City in Davao del Norte, was also hit by flash floods which forced over 300 people to evacuate their homes. The flood water subsided 2 days later and no casualties were reported.
