Russia’s emergency authorities say that flooding in the country’s Far East Region has affected 36 settlements in Maritime (Primorsky) and Khabarovsk Territories.
Flooding first struck on 07 August, leaving at least 10 settlements cut off. Local observers reported via Social Media that 249 mm of rain fell in Ussuriysk, Maritime Territory, between 06 and 07 August, 2017. Local media said that several rivers overflowed affecting low-lying areas.
The Ministry for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (EMERCOM) said in a report of 10 August, 2017, that houses were flooded, sections of motorways damaged and parts of railways eroded.
Twelve temporary shelters have been deployed and, as of 10 August, were housing 436 people.
Maritime Territory
Heavy rain on 7 August 2017 caused flash flooding in the municipalities of Ussuriysk Urban District, Khasansky and Nadezhdinsky Districts.
As of 10 August, 5 settlements remained cut off and 897 houses and 8 social facilities were flooded. Over 20 sections of motorways have been damaged.
Khabarovsk Territory
Flooding began on 7 August, affecting the districts of Zheleznodorozhny and Industrialny, in the city of Khabarovsk due to heavy rains. Around 20 houses were damaged by flooding.
Response
Emergency Operations centers and task forces of the Emergency Ministry’s Maritime and Khabarovsk Territories Directorates are working in cooperation with local governments and assessment commissions.
Airmobile teams of the Emergency Ministry’s directorates, the Amur Rescue Center and Far Eastern Regional Search and Rescue (SAR) Team are working and Ministry’s aircraft is on standby.
