South Korea – 2 Killed in Floods and Landslides After Heavy Rain

Two people have died and dozens evacuated as a result of landslides and flooding after torrential rain in South Korea.

Heavy rain began on 05 July 2021. Ministry of the Interior and Safety reported Hyeonsan in Haenam County recorded 529.5 mm of rain in 24 hours to 06 July.

Homes and more than 7,500 hectares of farmland were flooded and power supply and transport interrupted in South Jeolla Province.

As of 06 July, 190 people have evacuated their homes in Haenam, Gangjin and Jindo counties in South Jeolla Province. One person died after being swept away by flood waters in Haenam County.

Meanwhile heavy rain in the city of Gwangyang in South Jeolla Province triggered a landslide that destroyed several houses. One resident died as a result.

Several roads have been closed across South Jeolla Province, Busan and Gwangju.
