Turkey – Flash Floods Hit Ankara

Flash floods caused by heavy rain wreaked havoc in Ankara, Turkey, on Saturday 05 May, 2018. Further heavy rainfall the next day caused some surface flooding and traffic problems.

Officials said 6 people were injured in the floods, with more than 160 cars and 25 businesses suffering damage, mostly in the Mamak district of the city on 05 May, 2018.

Videos and images on Social Media showed dramatic scenes of cars being swept along flooded streets and drivers trying to escape from their vehicles.

The intense downpour reportedly lasted just a few minutes but dumped high levels of rain causing the flash flooding.

Further heavy rain in the capital on Sunday 06 May caused flooding in Kecioren and Pursaklar districts in the north of the city, flooding some buildings and causing traffic accidents.
