Several provinces in Turkey were hit by heavy rain and flash flooding over the weekend, 16 to 17 June, 2018.
A child is still missing after being swept away by flooding in Selendi district in the province of Manisa on 16 June.
As of 18 June search and rescue efforts were continuing. AKUT, the volunteer search and rescue organisation said that a team of 12 volunteers are still search for the missing person.
According to local politician, many homes, businesses, vehicles and agricultural land have been damaged in Selendi district.
According to Turkey’s met agency (Meteoroloji Genel Müdürlüğü – MGM), 30.3 mm of rain fell in Selendi in 24 hours to 17 June.
Turkish media reported that heavy rain also impacted parts of Istanbul on 16 June, inundating streets and causing traffic chaos. Similar surface flooding was also reported in the western province of Düzce, in particular in the city of Düzce.
Severe weather including hailstorms was reported in parts of Antalya, causing damage to crops and farm land.
