Yemen News Agency, Saba, are reporting that heavy rainfall caused a deadly landslide in the Lasbah area in al-Shamayaten district of Taiz Governorate in south west Yemen, yesterday, 23 May 2016.
At least 20 people have been reported killed and dozens injured. Important transport connections have been blocked, causing traffic disruption, but also making it difficult for rescue teams to reach the area. Officials are expecting the numbers of fatalities and casualties to increase once further assessments can be carried out.
Yemen Meteorology Authority say that some rain is still possible over the next 24 hours, and could affect western and south-western areas of the country.
