3 Dead in Vani, Georgia

Three people have died after flooding in western Georgia town of Vani in the Imereti region. Heavy rainfall over the weekend increased levels of the Sulori river. The swollen river swept away a car carrying 5 passengers on Sunday 27 July 2014. Although three people were rescued, one died later in hospital. Emergency rescue teams found the bodies of the remaining two on Monday 28 July.

Several villages in the area have also been affected, including Saprasia, Inashauri and Amaghleba. The flooding caused damage to homes, farmland and a bridge.
