Spain – Violent Flash Floods Cause Destruction in Toledo Province

Torrential rain on Saturday 08 September caused violent flash flooding in the small town of Cebolla, Toledo province, in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha, central Spain.

Local observers said that around 30 mm of rain fell in just 15 minutes and between 50 and 60 mm in one hour. The torrential rain caused a nearby creek to break its banks and raging flood water swept through the streets, causing destruction and dragging cars in its wake.

Roads and buildings were severely damaged but no injuries or fatalities were reported. Initial damage assessments suggest around 70 homes and 20 cars were damaged in the floods.

Also in Castile-La Mancha, some flooding was reported in Valdepeñas in the province of Ciudad Real after heavy rain and hail on 09 September, 2018. Police reported roads were blocked and homes had been damaged.
