Uganda – 15 Dead After Heavy Rain Triggers Landslide in Rubanda

At least fifteen people have died and and eight others remained missing after heavy rain triggered floods and a landslide in district of Rubanda in the Western Region of Uganda on Tuesday, 26 September, according to the Uganda Red Cross.

Fourteen people have been injured and referred to Kabale Regional hospital. Some houses have been damaged or destroyed, according to media reports.

Local media say that areas of Western Uganda have been hit with heavy rainstorms over the last few days.

The Red Cross said that their response teams are at the scene, conducting assessment and helping those affected.

Heavy rain during late August caused a landslide near Bundibugyo in Western Uganda where at least 1 person died.

Flooding in Northern Uganda displaced over 2,000 people in Elegu in Amuru district after rivers overflowed.
