Greece – Floods in North West Leave 1 Dead

Severe weather, including heavy rain and strong winds, affected parts of north-western Greece from 11 November.

The worst hit locations were Corfu and Igoumenitsa, where some areas recorded more than 100 mm of rain in a 24 hour period.

The Greek Fire Service reported that one man died in Corfu after his car was swept away bu flood waters. Fire service teams were called out to deal flooded buildings and fallen trees.

In Igoumenitsa, dozens of homes and businesses were reported flooded after a river overflowed due to the heavy rain.

The Greek Fire Service also reported wind damage in Paxos on 11 November and flood damage in Symi Island, Rhodes, on 13 November.
