A violent storm system struck southern and central parts of Texas between 30 October and 01 November 2015.
Flash flooding was reported in several parts of the state, including areas around Houston and Austin. Parts of Austin saw 10 inches (254 mm) of rain on Friday 30 October 2015. Some areas of Houston saw 12 inches (300 mm) of rain fall during a 24 hour period. Several tornadoes were also reported in affected areas.


Roads were blocked by flood water and emergency services carried out numerous flood rescues. In Houston alone, emergency crews carried out 130 flood rescues during Friday and Saturday. There were more than 40 reports of flooded structures in the city.
Six Flood Deaths
Officials say that 6 people are thought to have died as a result of the floods and severe weather. The deaths occurred in Austin, San Antonio and Houston. However the deaths in Houston remain unconfirmed. On Saturday, the City of Houston said it “has preliminary reports of two weather-related fatalities overnight. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is investigating and will confirm cause of death, after which details will be released”.
