Around 40 people had to evacuate their homes on eastern Oklahoma after heavy rain brought flooding to areas around Muskogee County, Oklahoma. Warner and Fort Gibson saw some of the worst flooding.
As much as 4 inches (10 cm) of rain fell in 24 hours between Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 May 2014. Low lying areas quickly became flooded as drainage systems were overwhelmed.
Local emergency services had to carry out some flood rescues and evacuations in Fort Gibson. The displaced families have temporary accommodation in local churches or motels.
As of early Wednesday 28 May 2014, it appears that the flood waters have started to recede and the clear up has begun, although weather forecasts say further heavy rain in the area is likely.
