Almost 40 people have been rescued from flood waters in northern Algeria after torrential rain.
In a 24 hour period to 01 September, 127.3mm of rain fell in the city of Skikda, around 4 times the monthly average for September.
The heavy rain caused major damaged to roads and some houses in Skikda and surrounding areas including Hamadi Krouma. Radio Algerie reported that that 39 people were rescued from flood water by Civil Protection. Heavy rains also caused problems with power supply and several areas of Skikda were left without electricity.
Flooding also affected neighbouring province of Jijel where Civil Protection rescued several people from flooded homes in the city of Jijel.
