Flash Floods in Narok, Kenya

Residents in flood prone areas of Narok South, a region of Narok County in the south of the country, have been told to leave their homes and seek temporary accommodation on higher ground. One person has been killed in the floods.

River levels in the area are extremely high after heavy rainfall last week. One man is understood to have been killed as he was swept away by flood water in Mulot, Narok County, on Wednesday 12 March 2014. Mulot is about 200km east if Nariobi. Police are still searching for the body. The man was thought to have attempted to cross the swollen river while herding cattle.

Taita-Taveta County in southern Kenya was hit by severe flooding in December 2013, which later spread to areas across the country, when at least 14 people were reported to have been killed.
