Five people have been confirmed dead and one missing following a heavy rain that caused flooding in some parts of Kumasi in Ghana.
Heavy rain began during the evening of Thursday 28 June. During a 24 hour period to 29 June, Kumasi recorded 115mm of rain. A further 76 mm of rain fell the following day.
Ghana News Agency (GNA), citing the Ashanti Region disaster management officials, said the victims were swept away by fast moving water. Flooding damaged buildings and property and emergency teams rescued 293 people from the flood waters. GNA said areas in the east of the city were worst affected.
Major flooding hit the Ghanaian capital, Accra, on 18 June this year.
