Uganda – Severe Floods and Landslides in Eastern Region

Severe flooding and damaging landslides struck in Eastern Region of Uganda after heavy rainfall from 17 September 2021.

Uganda Red Cross reported flooding and landslides in Sironko, Kapchorwa, Mbale and Kween districts of Eastern Uganda Region. One person died and 3 were hospitalised after a landslide destroyed a house in Kapchorwa district. Red Cross reported several landslides in Kapachorwa after close to 10 hours of heavy rain.

Waters from the swollen Manafwa river were affecting areas in Mbale. Several villages in Kween district also saw flooding.

On 19 September landslides and floods affected around 273 households in Sironko District.
