Flooding in Santiago del Estero Province, Argentina, has damaged around 600,000 hectares of crops and forced 700 people to evacuate their homes.

Parts of the province were hit by flooding in late April this year. Further heavy rain worsened the situation from 09 May, 2019.
According to Argentine national news agency Télam, the worst hit localities are in General Taboada, Juan Felipe Ibarra and Belgrano departments. Areas were flooded by overflowing rivers and irrigation canals after heavy rainfall over recent weeks.
Provincial Civil Defence has distributed relief supplies to affected areas, including some by helicopter. Many evacuees were temporarily housed in schools, public buildings and neighbours’ homes. Damaged crops include soybean, maize and alfalfa.
