Colombia – Thousands Hit by Flooding in North

Around 5,000 people have been affected by flooding in northern Colombia after heavy rain from late September 2019.

In Magdalena Department, a river broke its banks in Zona Bananera Municipality on 29 to 30 September 2019.

Local media reported that flooding from the Frío river damaged homes and schools, affecting around 4,000 people (600 families). Colombia Civil Defence said they were assisting communities in affected areas.

Also in the north of the country, 150 homes were flooded due to heavy rains in La Playa of Puerto Colombia, Atlántico Department, according to media reports.

Meanwhile in the south west of the country at least 1 person has died and 17 others were injured following a lightning strike in San Bernardino, Popayan municipality in Cauca Department on 06 October.
