Ecuador – 350 Families Affected as Rivers Overflow in Pastaza

Disaster authorities in Ecuador report that around 350 families have been affected by flooding from overflowing rivers in Pastaza Province.

According to Ecuador’s National Risk and Emergency Management Service (SNGRE) the Bobonaza river broke its banks on 17 March, flooding areas of Sarayacu, which lies around 150km west of the border with Peru.

Residents in the affected communities did not allow the SNGRE team to enter due to fears of coronavirus infection. SNGRE said that relief operations are therefore being co-ordinated through local community leaders.
