Severe weather including flooding has affected parts of central Panama, including districts of the capital Panama City, over the last few days. Authorities report that hundreds of people have been affected and at least 160 homes damaged.

The severe weather began around 09 November, affecting the provinces of Panama and Panama Oeste, where flooding, landslides and strong winds caused major damages. Walls of several houses collapsed and landslides blocked roads in both provinces.
Panama’s Ministry of Housing and Land Management (Miviot) said that a total of 160 homes were damaged by flooding in Panama Viejo, Ciudad Radial and Tocumen.
The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) said the accumulation of garbage in rivers and drainage channels worsened the flooding. There are plans to dredge the rivers next year.
