Further heavy rain has affected parts of Huanuco Department in Peru. The department saw a series of flood events during the first half of January this year.
Perui’s Centro de Operaciones De Emergencia Nacional (COEN) reported flooding in Luyando District, Leoncio Prado province on 05 February.
According to COEN, flooding damaged 114 homes and affected over 300 people.Furthermore, 21 homes were completely destroyed, leaving 56 people displaced.
Meanwhile a red alert is in place for communities close to the Vilcanota river (also known as the Urubamba or Vilcamayo) in Cusco Region, in particular Písac, Calca, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu. Damaging floods hit Písac last week. Warnings are also in place for the Verde river for communities in Lampa Province.
