Torrential rain has led to streets turning into rivers in the city of Recife, Brazil.

Recife is one of Brazil’s venue cities for the World Cup and is about to host the Germany versus USA game. There have been no suggestions as yet that the game will be called off. The stadium lies around 30km from the city center and as such may not be as badly affected.

However many fans will be finding it extremely treacherous to reach the stadium. Many of the city’s streets are under several feet of water. Cars and traffic have come to a standstill in some areas.

The rain has been pouring since last night. Some locals claim Recife has seen between 6 and 8 inches in less than 24 hours. Others say the equivalent of 25% of the average monthly rainfall fell overnight.
