3 Dead in Bajura, Nepal

Heavy rainfall in Bajura District, a part of Seti Zone of Nepal, led to flash floods that have killed 3 people and injured one other. Other villages in the area are at risk of similar flash floods while the heavy rain persists.

According to local media reports the deaths occurred in the village of Kolti, Bajura District, late yesterday, when flood water inundated a family house. Th deaths include one young child, a boy aged 5. A 19 year old woman was injured in the same incident.

Kolti is a village of around 850 houses, with a population of just over 4,500. At least 6 other houses in Kolti have been inundated in the same flash floods, with many other houses still at risk. Municipal buildings including a medical centre also suffered some damage.

June 2013 floods

Monsoon rains usually reach Nepal by around mid June. Nepal was hit by massive floods in June last year, when monsoon rains, especially around the Mahakali basin, resulted in one of the worst flood disasters on record in Uttarakhand, India and parts of Nepal.
