9 Killed in Flash Floods in Yunnan, China

China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs announced earlier today that at least 9 people have lost their lives in flash floods in Yunnan province, in south west China. A further 5 people are reported as missing.

The flash floods came in the aftermath of Typhoon Matmo. The typhoon struck eastern parts of China last week, destroying 2,600 houses, killing 13 people and leaving over 37,000 in desperate need of aid and relief supplies. The wake of the typhoon brought huge amounts of rainfall across several provinces including Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Sichuan, as well as Yunnan. The worst affected areas include the cities of Baoshan, Lincang and Dali.
