More heavy rain across parts of Indonesia has caused further flooding. Yesterday, landslides in Central Java and West Sumatra left at least 9 people dead and 4 missing.
Indonesia’s Nasional Disaster Management Authority (Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana – BNPB) have now reported further flooding in West Sumatra, where one person has died, as well as floods in Riau and Bangka-Belitung Islands.
Riau Province
According to BNPB, four rivers – the Rokan, Muara Bandar, Palis and Batang Lubuh – overflowed after heavy rain from 05 February. Flooding has been reported in several districts, including Rokan IV Koto, Pagaran Tapah and Rambah.
Initial reports say that 1,050 houses have been inundated, affecting 3,696 people in Rambah, where flood water is up to 1.5 metres deep. Evacuations are being carried out and relief supplies distributed to the victims.

West Sumatra
Meanwhile the flooding affecting parts of West Sumatra continues.
The heavy rainfall of 05 February caused a deadly landslide in Solok regency where 6 people were buried. Local reports say at least 4 people have died and 2 are still missing.
Flooding is also affecting the sub-districts of Sungai Pagu, Pauh Duo and Sangir in Solok. BPBD say the flooding was triggered by the overflow of Batang Bangko River, Batang Suliti River and Batang Lolo River. Flood water is up to 1.5 metres deep in some locations, and as many as 2,000 homes have been damaged. Roads and rice fields have also suffered damage. In Solok city, the Batang Lembang river has burst its banks, causing damage to 36 houses.
Flooding has also occurred in 50 Kota District, where around 100 houses have been inundated and 1 person killed after he was swept away by the floods.
Bangka Belitung Islands
Heavy rainfall triggered flooding in three districts in Kota Pangkal Pinang on 08 February 2016.
According to BNPB, the affected areas includes Taman Sari Sub-district, Rangkui and Bukit Intan. Flood water is up to 1.3 metres deep in some villages.
Local disaster management authorities are evacuating local people to safer places. They are also carrying out assessment on casualties and losses.
