Indonesia – Thousands of Families Affected by Floods in South Kalimantan Province

Over 1,000 homes were submerged after flooding in Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan Province, Indonesia on 12 January 2021.

Heavy rainfall caused flooding that affected around 25 villages across 7 sub-districts in the regency. Disaster authorities say an estimated 1,288 houses were submerge, with further assessments to be completed.

Rescue workers from Banjar Regency disaster agency, BPBD, are working to evacuate residents in flooded areas. As many as 8,696 households (over 40,000 people) have been affected and at least 29 families displaced so far.

Flooding also affected parts of Tabalong Regency in South Kalimantan Province on 12 January after heavy rainfall caused the Uwi and Tabalong rivers to overflow. Around 180 people were affected after floods damaged 92 homes in areas of Haruai Sub-district.
