The heavy rain that caused deadly flooding in Indonesia’s North Sumatra Province has also affected parts of the Peninsular Malaysia, prompting evacuations in Johor State.
Authorities report that over 200 people were evacuated to temporary flood relief centers after floods hit the districts of Kluang, Johor Baru, Pontian and Kulai on 29 January 2020. As of 30 January 56 families remained displaced in Pontian and Kulai.
Thousands were displaced by flooding in the state in December 2019.
