Russia – Deadly Floods After Dam Collapse in Krasnoyarsk

At least 15 people have died after a dam collapsed in Schetinkino in the Krasnoyarsk region of Russia on 19 October, 2019.

News Agency TASS said: “A dam at a technological reservoir of a gold mining artel collapsed early on Saturday (near the settlement of Schetinkino in the Krasnoyarsk region. Two temporary dormitories were flooded. The Russian Emergencies Ministry sent rescuers from neighboring regions to the site of the incident to assist in disaster relief efforts.”

As many as 80 people were believed to be living in the dormitories. Rescue workers are still searching for missing miners that may have been swept away by the flood.

The Emergencies Ministry said that more than 270 people and about 50 units of equipment, including 6 MI-8 emergency helicopters 6 small vessels, have been involved in search and rescue work.

Russian international television network RT said that heavy rains in the village of Schetinkino on the Seyba River caused the dam to fail.
