A few days ago we reported on the floods currently affecting southern Thailand.
Areas of the south have seen heavy rainfall for some time, with as much as 250mm over a 24 hour period. The worst hit areas have been Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla and Narathiwat. In some places, rainfall has been 40% above normal for November, with a monthly total of over 1 meter.

Further Heavy Rain Forecast
There has been some respite over the last 2 days, where rainfall has eased. However, forecasters now believe that the areas south of Nakhon Si Thammarat will see some very heavy rain for a number of days, possibly until 3 December. Given that there is already a substantial amount of water on the ground, especially in the low lying areas, further flooding is highly likely.

Meanwhile there have been some reports from local media that heavy rainfall has caused a breakage in a levee by the Trang River. Flood waters stood at around 3 meters in some nearby villages. The breach occuured in Bang Rak, Muang district, in Trang. Roads were blocked by flood water and debris, and around 3,000 homes were inundated. There have also been reports of the Tapi River overflowing, inundating villages in the Phrasaeng district with as much as 1 meter of flood water.
