The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) in Thailand reports that severe weather including wind storms, high waves and heavy rain has affected several provinces over the last few days.
According to DDPM, the spate severe weather was as result of the influence of tropical storm “Nuri”in the upper South China Sea combined with the Southwest Monsoon currently over the Andaman Sea and Thailand.
Heavy rain triggered flash flooding in Nong Phai district in Phetchabun province on 14 June, damaging 50 homes. Flooding also affected Ko Sichang, Chon Buri Province. No injuries or fatalities were reported. According to Thai Meteorological Department, Ko Sichang recorded 184mm of rain in 24 hours on 14 June.
Strong winds caused damage in the northern provinces of Phayao, Uttaradit, Leoi, Udon Thani and Kalasin and the southern province of Surat Thani. DDPM said that over 300 homes were damaged in total, with 1,600 people affected.
