Floods in Turkey’s Ordu Province in the Black Sea Region have left 2 people dead and at least 1 other missing. Dozens of buildings have been damaged and some local media reports say that bridges have also been damaged.
Heavy rain began to fall on 04 July. By 05 July, the heavy rain had caused landslides and flash flooding in several districts in the province, including Gürgentepe, Çatalpinar, Perşembe and Fatsa. The small rivers, Kacalı and Gargacak, have both overflowed in Perşembe district, according to local media.
The deaths occurred in Perşembe district. One man drowned after being swept away by flood water and the second victim is thought to have died in a landslide.
A local disaster management official told Turkish News Agency Anadolu that 158 mm of rain fell in 6 hours on 05 July in affected areas. Rize, the capital city of Rize Province in the eastern part of the Black Sea Region, recorded 172.1 mm of rain in 24 hours between 05 and 06 July.
Numan Kurtulmuş, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey, visited the flood hit areas on 06 July.
